Proctor Silex Meal Maker Sandwich Toaster, White 25400
|
In 1904, the founders of the U.S. Standard Electrical Works in Racine,
Wisconsin, hired a young farm boy named Chester Beach and a former
cashier named L.H. Hamilton. Mr. Beach improved the first lightweight,
high speed "universal" motor, meaning it could run on AC or DC power.
The new motor, known as the fractional horsepower motor,
revolutionized the appliance industry and was the backbone of new
product development.
The first Hamilton Beach product, an electric hand-held massager, was
produced in 1910. In 1911the Hamilton Beach Manufacturing Company
was founded for the sole purpose of developing more "universal"
motor-driven appliances. The classic cyclone Drink Mixer was
introduced at that time, and the Hamilton Beach line began
to grow. The new motor was used to power sewing
machines, thereby ending the era of the treadle sewing machine.
These new motors powered ingenious attachments, one of which
mixed cake batter and was the forerunner of today's popular Hamilton Beach
stand mixer.
