The Douglas Fir might easily be called the King of American trees -- at 320 feet, the tallest Doug firs are only slightly shorter than a redwood tree, but Douglas firs grow all across the western U.S.

Some Douglas firs in Washington state have been measured at over 15 feet in diameter and over 1000 years old! Imagine planting a tree that could still be living in the year 3000 A.D.! It will grow nearly anywhere in the U.S. or Canada except the high arctic or Gulf Coast/Florida areas. Give it plenty of room! Within 30 years it should be at least 100 feet tall.
