Inspired by the baroque marble sculpture by Italian Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Apollo and Daphne is based on the life-sized statue in Rome. It was originally inspired by one of the stories included in Ovid's Metamorphoses. In this tragic love tale, Apollo, shot by Cupid's love arrow pursues the affections of the nymph, Daphne, who also victim of Cupid's arrows, flees from his pursuit. Instead of giving in to the young God, Daphne calls her father for help and he turns her into a laurel tree. The laurel tree is forever then sacred to Apollo. This piece will arrive in whitewear if no finish is ordered.
