Our version of the Aphrodite of Milos, better known as the Venus de Milo, is inspired by the Ancient Greek original. The Venus de Milo is without question one of the most famous works of ancient Greek sculpture and is name for the island of Milos(also called Milo) where it was discovered. It depicts Aphrodite (called Venus by the Romans), the Greek goddess of love and beauty. From an inscription that was on its plinth, it is believed to be the work of Alexandros of Antioch; earlier it was mistakenly attributed to the master sculptor Praxiteles.
