The frame for these bookends is solid wood finished with a cherry stain. The globes are paper mache and resemble a Renaissance-era map of the world. The sections don't fit perfectly, but the continents, oceans and lines of latitude are obvious. The globes spin freely on their axes, but their frames do not move.

I bought this set from a Brooklyn, NY, variety store that went out of business in 4/00.
One of the globes is missing a small piece of the map.
